Unlock the Essentials of EVs: Practical Insights

Are you considering upgrading your vehicle? Have you explored the benefits of electric vehicles (EVs)?

The Government’s push for consumers to choose electric vehicles represents a shift towards more affordable and sustainable transportation options, with the added benefit of tax incentives. Choosing an electric vehicle now offers greater tax advantages than purchasing a fossil fuel vehicle of the same price. However, in addition to the financial and sustainable benefits, there are other factors that should be thoughtfully considered.

Chris Mullins, Principal at O’Brien’s, explains his decision to switch to an electric vehicle and offers advice on how to make the most of electric vehicles for your commute.

Chris Mullins:

Well folks I’m back for the second installment on my special on EVs. In the first video I spoke about the tax concessions that apply upon the purchase of EV. In this second video I want to talk more about my personal journey. So these are just my views and based on the research that I did when I went to purchase my car.

I understand EVs are not for everyone, it really depends on the pattern and the use of the car. So for me I pretty much travel from home to work and I go and see clients. I’m not doing lots and lots of Ks out on the freeways; they’re not great for long range freeway use because the battery is being used pretty much at capacity and for long periods of time, the battery does drain quite quick on freeway use.

The other is around the infrastructure. Yes it’s there but with the popularity of EVs it’s gone from sitting relatively idle to now it’s getting used fairly frequently. It’s quite common that you go to your local gym where there’s EV stations and they’re often being used or you go to the library where there’s EV stations and again you pull in and the EVs are being used. So my recommendation is you really do need your home charging installation and one that provides highspeed charging. So yes whilst you can charge off a 10 amp power point but it will take about 30 hours. If you do have a high speed charging station that charging can come down significantly and effectively it’s somewhere between 8 and 10 with charging overnight.

So these are pretty critical factors for me and they all worked and then led me to the decision to go and purchase an EV. If you’d like to discuss the purchase of an EV, the tax benefits or other considerations I’m Chris Mullins please contact me at O’Brien’s, thanks very much.
